Grades 11-12

The Diploma Programme (DP)* provides a challenging, internationally focused, broad and balanced educational experience for students aged 16 to 19. Students are required to study six subjects and a curriculum core concurrently over two years. The programme is designed to equip students with the basic academic skills needed for university study, further education and their chosen profession. Additionally the programme supports the development of the values and life skills needed to live a fulfilled and purposeful life.

Through the DP, we are able to develop students who:

• Have excellent breadth and depth of knowledge

• Flourish physically, intellectually, emotionally and ethically

• Study at least two languages

• Excel in traditional academic subjects

• Explore the nature of knowledge through the programme’s unique theory of knowledge course.

Breadth of Study

Students who take up the Diploma Programme (DP) complete six DP subjects and the challenging DP Core comprising of TOK, CAS and the Extended Essay. They gain an advantage by being able to apply at universities abroad as the DP has a very high acceptance rate. By not narrowing the choice at Grade 11, students benefit from taking up the broad curriculum ranging upto six subjects. By the end of Grade 11, by discussions with the DP Coordinator and a University Counsellor, students and families will have a clear idea of what they want to pursue. Subjects are from six broad areas of Language & Literature, Language Acquisition, Individuals & Societies, Science, Math and Arts.

FIS offers this combination of subjects:

#4. A choice of Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Systems & Societies and Design Technology

#6. Visual Arts

The International Baccalaureate® (IB)* Career-related Programme (CP) is open to any student aged 16-19. The CP is a framework of international education that incorporates the values of the IB into a unique programme addressing the needs of students who are relatively sure of what careers they want to pursue.

The courses chosen should be relevant to the students’ career-related studies.

The CP was specifically developed for students who wish to engage in career-related learning while gaining transferable and lifelong skills in applied knowledge, critical thinking, communication, and cross-cultural engagement. CP students have a choice of applying at many universities abroad that recognise the CP course.

The CP enables students to:

Combine academic subjects with their personal and professional interests and skills

Apply their knowledge to real world scenarios and situations

Think critically and creatively

Engage in learning that makes a positive difference to their community
